Emma Rose Watts

Emma Rose Watts writes suspense set along Florida’s coast, using the name for a darker mystery line distinct from her cozy fiction as Emma Watts. Dead Calm opens the five-book Coastal Suspense series and introduces former U.S. Marshal Skylar Reid. After a personal loss and a forced career change, Skylar joins a sheriff’s office in Carrabelle and is paired with a veteran detective. A suspicious death initially dismissed without inquiry pushes the partners toward a criminal investigation and establishes the series’ interest in institutional resistance, local secrets, and the landscape of Florida’s Forgotten Coast. Later books include Death Match, Death Blow, Dead Drop, and Dead Storm, continuing the same regional world. Dead Calm also appeared in an audio edition narrated by Sandra Murphy. Watts uses the series opening to reposition a highly trained fugitive hunter inside a smaller department, where experience helps but does not erase grief, professional conflict, or the difficulty of earning trust.
