Erasmus Darwin

Erasmus Darwin (1731–1802) was an English physician, natural philosopher, and poet, and a founding member of the Lunar Society of Birmingham. He is remembered for scientific works such as Zoonomia and for long didactic poems including The Botanic Garden, which set natural history to verse. His speculations on the transmutation of species anticipated evolutionary ideas later developed by his grandson, Charles Darwin.
