Erich Krauss
1971
Erich Krauss combines experience as a writer and independent publisher with an interest in survival stories and remote places. Primitives marked his return to fiction after years spent producing nonfiction and developing Victory Belt Publishing. The post-apocalyptic thriller follows Seth Keller in an isolated desert home and Sarah Peoples in a Costa Rican settlement three decades after the Great Fatigue and its treatment transformed most of humanity. Separate discoveries send both characters beyond the communities that have defined their lives, placing them in a contest over whether civilization can be restored. Briar Road Books, an imprint associated with Victory Belt, released Primitives in May 2022. Krauss had previously written or collaborated on more than thirty books and traveled widely, experiences reflected in the story's contrasting desert and jungle settings. The expansive disaster premise lets him examine authority, trust, and moral choice while keeping the central question focused on what the remaining survivors owe one another.
