Author: Evan Fallenberg
Evan Fallenberg works as an American-born novelist, translator, and teacher whose work moves between English and Hebrew literary cultures. Light Fell, his debut novel, brings an estranged father and his five sons together in Tel Aviv for a Sabbath meal, using their reunion to examine family rupture, religious commitment, and the long consequences of private choices. Soho Press published the novel, which received the Stonewall Book Award and the Edmund White Award for debut fiction. Fallenberg later wrote When We Danced on Water and The Parting Gift. As a translator, he has brought works by Israeli writers including Meir Shalev, Ron Leshem, Batya Gur, and Hanoch Levin into English. His academic work includes creative-writing instruction at Bar-Ilan University. Light Fell establishes the concerns that connect these roles: the movement between languages, generations, and forms of belonging, along with careful attention to how people explain the past differently when they meet again.
