Francis Cowley Burnand (1836–1917) was an English comic writer and dramatist who turned out more than 200 burlesques, farces, and pantomimes for the London stage from 1860 onward. He is best remembered for his association with the humor magazine Punch, which he wrote for across forty-five years and edited from 1880 to 1906. His serial Happy Thoughts, first run in the magazine, became one of the most widely read comic works of the Victorian era. He was knighted in 1902.
