Fei Le Niao is a studio rather than a single artist: an illustration house set up in mainland China in 2006, running drawing schools in Chengdu, Hangzhou and other cities and turning out step-by-step manuals in coloured pencil, watercolour, sketch and ink. Several hundred titles carry its name, and a fair number have been licensed abroad. Chinese Brush Painting Four Seasons, brought out in English by Shanghai Press in 2023, sets twenty-four brush projects of flowers, birds and fruit against the twenty-four solar terms of the traditional Chinese calendar, so the exercises run from spring through to winter in order.
