The Black Widow Agency books follow four women who run an investigation agency together, among them a computer specialist who keeps a pet tarantula and an office manager with a sideline in craft, and the series drew a Barry Award nomination. The French Girl moves away from that comic register. It was a quarter finalist for the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award, and it is set in the small Massachusetts town of Cote Nouvelle, where Etoile and her older sister Anais grow up with a mother who is little help to them and a father lost at sea years before.
