Florence Williams

Florence Williams is a science journalist whose reporting follows the links between people, health, and the natural world. Heartbreak: A Personal and Scientific Journey blends memoir with an investigation of grief, attachment, and recovery after the end of a long marriage. Williams approaches the subject through interviews, laboratories, and outdoor experience, keeping personal narrative in conversation with research rather than treating either as a complete answer. PEN America awarded Heartbreak the 2023 PEN/E.O. Wilson Literary Science Writing Award. Her earlier books, The Nature Fix and Breasts, likewise translate scientific questions for general readers, while her magazine work has appeared in Outside, National Geographic, The Atlantic, and other publications.
