Francine Jay
1990
Jay writes as Miss Minimalist and arrived there by moving repeatedly between rented flats in three countries and noticing how little she actually wanted to carry. The Joy of Less sets out a method she calls streamline, working room by room and asking what each object earns its place by doing. It was self-published in 2010 and picked up by a publisher afterwards, and it reached English readers before the Japanese decluttering books that later dominated the shelf.
