Gabrielle S. Prendergast is a Canadian writer whose books range across teen novels in verse, speculative fiction, middle-grade stories, and picture books. Capricious returns to Ella after Audacious, tracing a summer shaped by friendship, family strain, and competing romantic attachments. Orca Book Publishers released Capricious in 2014. Its verse form allows different moods and voices to sit beside one another while keeping Ella’s restless perspective at the centre. Prendergast’s other work includes Pandas on the Eastside, Zero Repeat Forever, Cold Falling White, and If Pluto Was a Pea, illustrated by Rebecca Gerlings. Pandas on the Eastside received recognition from the Vancouver Book Award, while her verse novels earned multiple nominations.
