Gary Younge is a British journalist, author, broadcaster, and professor whose reporting examines race, politics, migration, and international affairs. He spent more than two decades at The Guardian, including years as a foreign correspondent in the United States, and later joined the University of Manchester. Dispatches from the Diaspora gathers three decades of his journalism under the subtitle From Nelson Mandela to Black Lives Matter. OR Books published the collection in 2023. Its interviews, reportage, memoir, and commentary range across Britain, the United States, South Africa, and the Caribbean, connecting prominent political figures with the experiences of communities shaped by colonialism and migration. Younge writes as both participant and observer, placing encounters with public leaders beside accounts of elections, protest, inequality, and everyday life. The collection also shows how his perspective developed across changing assignments and historical moments. Dispatches from the Diaspora therefore works as a record of Younge's career as well as a sustained inquiry into how Black political identities travel, organize, and change across national borders.
