Gene Kim
1971
Wrote The Phoenix Project as a novel because the audience he wanted, operations engineers and the executives above them, does not read management theory.
An IT manager has ninety days to rescue a failing project, and learns to see work as flow through a system with constraints, which is Goldratt's Theory of Constraints moved into software. The DevOps Handbook and Accelerate provided the evidence afterwards. Kim co-founded a security company and ran the DevOps Enterprise Summit for years, and the fiction was always the delivery mechanism rather than the ambition.
