Gennifer Albin
Gennifer Albin became known through the Crewel World sequence, which imagines time and matter as fabric manipulated by specially trained girls. Altered is the second novel, following Crewel and preceding Unraveled. After escaping Arras, Adelice reaches the damaged Earth beneath that controlled world, but freedom brings Remnants, divided allies, family secrets, and new uncertainty about the Guild. Farrar, Straus and Giroux published the book in 2013. Albin extends the setting beyond the looms and coventries of the opening novel, turning Adelice's personal rebellion into a struggle between worlds and competing accounts of her parents' past. The series also includes shorter works such as The Department of Alterations and The Girl in the High Tower. Altered occupies the bridge position in the trilogy: it widens the geography, complicates the loyalties around Adelice, and preserves the textile imagery that gives the Crewel World its distinctive form of speculative power.
