German Sadulaev is a Russian novelist, essayist, and lawyer of Chechen heritage whose fiction examines identity, memory, office life, and the legacies of conflict. Born in Shali in 1973, he moved to Leningrad as a teenager to study law and later practised in Saint Petersburg. His early books include I Am a Chechen!, a linked collection combining family memory, legend, and reflections on Chechnya. Maya Pill, translated into English by Carol Apollonio and published by Dalkey Archive Press, turns an office worker's encounter with mysterious tablets into a satirical exploration of illusion, consumer culture, and myth. The Russian edition reached finalist lists for both the Russian Booker and National Bestseller prizes. Sadulaev's later bibliography includes The Raid on Shali and Ivan Auslender, extending his engagement with Russian and Caucasian experience.
