Godfrey R. Benson

Godfrey Rathbone Benson, first Baron Charnwood (1864-1945), was an English Liberal politician and author. Though he wrote only a handful of books, his 1916 biography of Abraham Lincoln became a widely admired classic, and he turned his analytical mind to detective fiction in this early mystery.
