Hal Herzog

Some We Love, Some We Hate, Some We Eat is about the incoherence of how people treat animals: the same person weeps at a film about a dog and eats a pig, and cockfighters and animal rights campaigners turn out to reach for the same arguments. Herzog is an anthrozoologist who has spent decades studying that relationship and has interviewed all of those groups with the same attention. The book declines to resolve the contradiction, because he does not believe it resolves, which is a harder and more honest position than either side wants.
