Author: Harold Steele MacKaye
Harold Steele MacKaye (1866-1928) was born in Paris, brought to the United States as an infant, and trained as a lawyer, practicing in New York while writing fiction on the side. He came from a theatrical family: his father, Steele MacKaye, was a dramatist, actor, and theatrical impresario, and his younger brother Percy MacKaye became a well-known poet and playwright. He published several novels, including The Winged Helmet (1905) and Lucinda's Whim (1912), but The Panchronicon, issued by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1904, is the one his name has survived on, and the only one that earns him a mention in histories of early science fiction. He died in Yonkers, New York, in 1928.
