About this book

Few double acts in fiction are as beloved as Bertie Wooster and his valet Jeeves. Bertie is a cheerful, feather-brained young bachelor with a genius for landing himself and his friends in trouble, whether over unwanted engagements, tyrannical aunts, or the folly of borrowing money. Jeeves, gliding in with a discreet cough and a flawless plan, sets everything right and quietly disapproves of his master's taste in socks. These early stories, first collected around 1919, established the pair who would carry Wodehouse through a lifetime of comedy. The dialogue sparkles, the plots interlock like clockwork, and the London of clubs and country houses glows with sunny nonsense. Wit this effortless rarely ages.
