Author: Heather Heying
Heather Heying took a doctorate in biology at Michigan for fieldwork on poison frogs in Madagascar and taught evolutionary biology at Evergreen State College until 2017, when she and her husband Bret Weinstein left the college after a dispute over a campus event turned into protests and threats. A Hunter-Gatherer's Guide to the 21st Century, which the two wrote together and Portfolio published in 2021, argues that modern conditions have outrun the bodies and minds evolution gave us, and works through sleep, food, medicine, schooling and parenting on that footing. Other biologists have objected that a number of its evolutionary claims are asserted rather than demonstrated, and that the book lands on conclusions the underlying literature does not carry. The two have since built a large audience through a podcast they present together.
