Henry Hall documented the development of Auburn, New York, in a substantial nineteenth-century local history. The History of Auburn was published in 1869 by Dennis Brothers and Company, and its scope reaches from early settlement through the civic institutions, businesses, churches, schools, and public works that shaped the community. The surviving scan and independent library record establish Hall's authorship, the complete title, publication place, publisher, and date. Hall organised names, events, and institutional changes into a narrative intended to preserve local memory for contemporary residents and later researchers. Because the book was written relatively close to many of the developments it describes, it also reflects the priorities and language of its own era. Its chronological structure gives particular attention to municipal growth, local industries, public buildings, and named residents involved in civic life. Genealogists and regional historians can use it as a starting point to identify people and institutions and follow change across the nineteenth century, while checking particular claims against official records and scholarship produced after Hall's account appeared.
