Henry Hallam connected constitutional history with a deeply personal act of literary preservation. Histoire Constitutionnelle d’Angleterre, Vol. 2 presents part of his study of English government from Henry VII through George II in French. The Constitutional History of England, Volume 4 reflects another divided edition of that extended argument, demonstrating how publishers reorganized the work across differing volume schemes. Remains in Verse and Prose of Arthur Henry Hallam has separate authorship: Arthur supplied the poems and essays, while his father Henry acted as editor and memoirist. Arthur's early death later inspired Tennyson's In Memoriam A.H.H. These three titles distinguish Hallam's own scholarship from his stewardship of his son's writing. Two belong to his public career as a historian of institutions; the third arose from a father's wish to preserve a gifted young writer's work.
