Horatio Nelson

Horatio Nelson was a British naval commander whose victories during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars made him a defining public figure of his era. The Letters of Lord Nelson to Lady Hamilton, Vol II. – With A Supplement Of Interesting Letters By Distinguished Characters gathers correspondence addressed to Emma Hamilton and places Nelson's private voice beside the political and military world around him. His career included commands at the battles of the Nile, Copenhagen, and Trafalgar, where the British fleet secured a decisive victory. The letters reveal a register different from formal dispatches, moving through affection, anxiety, patronage, travel, and current events. They also document Nelson's close relationship with Hamilton, who was married to diplomat Sir William Hamilton. Read as a historical collection, the volume complements accounts of strategy and public ceremony by preserving the language Nelson used within a consequential personal relationship of his later life.
