J.C. Cervantes

Always Isn't Forever, published by G.P. Putnam's Sons Books for Young Readers in June 2023, gives its dead narrator a borrowed body. Hart Augusto drowns in a boating accident before his last year of school, and a bargain returns him in the shape of a local troublemaker named Jameson, forbidden to tell Ruby Armenta who he really is while his own memories thin out. J.C. Cervantes made her name in middle grade: The Storm Runner (2018) was the second title in the Rick Riordan Presents imprint at Disney-Hyperion, built on Maya myth around Zane Obispo, a New Mexico boy who walks with a cane and finds that his dormant volcano is a doorway. She has won the New Mexico Book Award and the Zia Book Award.
