Cheree Smith
Cheree Smith is an Australian writer and visual creator associated with teenage paranormal fiction, dark fantasy, and photography. Dark Cherry Press released Shinigami Eyes during 2014. It follows seventeen-year-old Rin Waters from Australia to Japan after a disturbing incident involving the companion only she can see. At a new school, Rin encounters a manga enthusiast whose predictions appear to anticipate dangerous events, forcing her to question whether the figure beside her is imaginary or supernatural. The novel draws on Japanese horror motifs while incorporating manga panels into its visual presentation. Edition credits create an important role distinction: some name Cheree Smith and Adam Smith together, while others identify Cheree as illustrator and Adam as author. That ambiguity matters because the artwork and prose are presented as a coordinated project. Shinigami Eyes opens a named series and places family displacement, folklore, and uncertainty inside a school mystery whose viewpoint remains closely tied to Rin’s fear and judgment.
