J.J. Connolly

Layer Cake is narrated by a London drug dealer who is careful, avoids violence and intends to retire, and whose exit plan comes apart over the course of a week. Connolly wrote it out of the east London world he grew up alongside, and the language is why it lasted; the film with Daniel Craig came from his own screenplay. He waited fifteen years before writing the sequel and has said he had no wish to keep living in that world on the page.
