His retirement plan is involved by a large shipment of stolen ecstasy, German neo-German forces who want the drugs back, uncertain friends, and his boss, kingpin Jimmy Price, who charges him with the task of recovering the missing daughter of a wealthy socialite.

Layer Cake is narrated by a London drug dealer who is careful, avoids violence and intends to retire, and whose exit plan comes apart over the course of a week. Connolly wrote it out of the east London world he grew up alongside, and the language is why it lasted; the film with Daniel Craig came from his own screenplay.
