J.K. Swift

J.K. Swift writes historical fantasy rooted in the political legends and mountain landscapes of medieval Switzerland. Altdorf opens the Forest Knights series and follows several viewpoints, including former Hospitaller Thomas Schwyzer and healer Seraina, as Habsburg power presses into the Alpine communities. Goodreads describes the novel as book one, dates its first publication to 2011, and classifies it across historical fiction and fantasy. Bookmate independently records Swift’s authorship, the late-thirteenth-century setting, and the struggle around the St. Gotthard Pass and the fortress at Altdorf. The story combines documented institutions with legendary resistance, using religious allegiance, local custom, and contested authority to build its conflict. Thomas’s military past and Seraina’s traditional role place them on different edges of the same rebellion. Altdorf establishes the people and political pressures that subsequent Forest Knights volumes extend, making it a natural starting point for J.K. Swift’s imagined account of Swiss independence.
