James Brabazon
James Brabazon draws on a career in frontline journalism and documentary filmmaking when constructing international thrillers. Arkhangel is the second Max McLean novel, following The Break Line. Penguin describes McLean as an off-the-books British operative whose failed assignment leaves him with a coded banknote and a trail running from Paris and Jerusalem to north-west Russia. Brabazon has reported and filmed in more than seventy countries, with work broadcast by the BBC, Channel 4, HBO, CNN, and the Discovery Channel. Before turning to this fiction series, he wrote My Friend the Mercenary, a memoir about his reporting in Liberia. That background gives the Max McLean books their emphasis on fieldcraft, divided loyalties, and the ethical cost of secret operations.
