Jennie Goutet
Jennie Goutet writes historical and contemporary romance and lives with her French husband and their children outside Paris. Her fiction frequently returns to Georgian and Regency England, with an emphasis on emotional connection and closed-door romance. The Sport of Matchmaking belongs to the Clavering series and pairs George Clavering, a confirmed bachelor, with Lady Alice, an independent heiress who has also rejected marriage. Their wager and resistance to matchmaking provide the social framework for a romance built around changing convictions. A 2022 paperback appeared from Elm Hill. Goutet has also written the Clavering Chronicles, Memorable Proposals, and the Bridwells' Grand Tour books, as well as the memoir Stars Upside Down. Her route into longer work began with writing about life in France and earlier travels, then moved through memoir and a serialized contemporary romance before she focused on Regency settings. That background helps explain the mix of French expatriate experience and deliberate historical escapism across her author profile.
