Jessica Hart

Jessica Hart is the romance-writing name of British author Pamela Hartshorne, whose long career with Mills & Boon is known for wit, travel-rich settings, and emotionally practical protagonists. Mills & Boon and Harlequin Romance released Newlyweds of Convenience during 2008. Mallory McIver enters a deliberately businesslike marriage with Torr, expecting their arrangement to remain free of emotional demands. Torr then leaves corporate life for a ruined castle in the Scottish Highlands and expects Mallory to join him. Hart described the novel’s real movement as Mallory’s changing understanding of her husband rather than the couple’s physical journey. Domestic work, conversations, and a visit to Inverness gradually test the assumptions on which their marriage was built. Newlyweds of Convenience uses the marriage-of-convenience convention to contrast Mallory’s attachment to city life with Torr’s unexpected competence in an isolated setting. The book belongs to Hart’s extensive contemporary-romance bibliography and shows her preference for character change expressed through everyday choices rather than extravagant action.
