Jessica Sankiewicz

Jessica Sankiewicz wrote If Only We as her debut novel, developing it from a NaNoWriMo project begun in 2011 and publishing the completed book in 2013. The teen story follows Adrienne, who is given an unexpected chance to return to the summer before graduation and reconsider the choices that damaged her closest relationships. Its speculative premise supports a character-centered account of regret, friendship, family strain, and the limits of changing the past. The emotional focus stays on Adrienne’s decisions, her friendships, and the consequences she hopes to revise. If Only We remains closely associated with Sankiewicz’s early focus on emotionally direct coming-of-age fiction. By allowing Adrienne to revisit familiar moments with knowledge of what followed, the novel asks whether better intentions can repair old harm and whether a second opportunity can produce a genuinely different future.
