Josh Alan Friedman

Josh Alan Friedman moves between American journalism, editing, guitar, and songwriting, with a career spanning underground culture and roots music. Tell the Truth Until They Bleed gathers his reporting on blues and rock figures, using close observation and firsthand encounters rather than a smooth institutional history. A central section grew from his long friendship with songwriter Doc Pomus, whose work included Save the Last Dance for Me and A Teenager in Love. Backbeat Books issued the collection in 2008, and Wyatt Doyle Books with New Texture later published a revised edition. Friedman is also known for Tales of Times Square and for comics collaborations with his brother, artist Drew Friedman. As a performer under the name Josh Alan, he has played alongside or opened for artists across blues and rock. Tell the Truth Until They Bleed therefore sits at the intersection of his two practices: music making and unsentimental cultural journalism, shaped by access to performers, clubs, and changing city scenes.
