Craig Brown

1957

Craig Brown works across criticism, satire, and biography, often assembling a subject through brief scenes, reported encounters, and sharply observed cultural details. One Two Three Four approaches the Beatles through a mosaic of witnesses and episodes rather than a single continuous group history. It follows their emergence, public image, creative partnerships, and the many people drawn into their orbit. Fourth Estate publishes the book under the fuller title One Two Three Four: The Beatles in Time. Brown has also written Ma’am Darling, a portrait of Princess Margaret, and contributed parody and criticism to British newspapers and magazines. One Two Three Four received the Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction, recognition of its archival range and unusual biographical construction.
