Josie Silver
1972
A woman's fiancé is killed in a car crash on her twenty-eighth birthday, and the sleeping tablets her doctor prescribes carry her each night into a parallel version of the life she had planned, where he is still alive. That is The Two Lives of Lydia Bird, the second novel Josie Silver published, in 2020. Her first, One Day in December, appeared in 2018, was picked for Reese Witherspoon's book club, reached the Sunday Times and New York Times lists, and has been translated into more than twenty-five languages. Silver writes love stories with grief and near misses running underneath them. She lives in the English Midlands with her husband and two sons, and has since published One Night on the Island and A Winter in New York.
