Joy Jordan-Lake
1963
Joy Jordan-Lake builds historically grounded fiction around family choices inside divided American communities. Under a Gilded Moon travels to Asheville in 1895, during the last construction phase at Biltmore House. Kerry MacGregor arrives from New York and meets Joe McCloud, a mountain resident bound to the region through generations of family history. Missing women and an unexplained death bring mystery into a landscape already marked by differences in money, land, and influence. In 2020, Lake Union Publishing brought the work to readers. Jordan-Lake grew up in East Tennessee and knew the Blue Ridge country before turning it into a setting where local knowledge matters. A Tangled Mercy offers another historically researched story attentive to social fracture and personal responsibility. Her fiction treats place as a source of memory and conflict, allowing grand public developments to be measured against the people living beside them.
