Julia Heaberlin

We Are All the Same in the Dark begins with a girl found in a field with one eye, and the policeman's son who takes her home, in a Texas town that settled ten years ago on whose fault an old disappearance was. Heaberlin edited Texas newspapers and writes about the way a town's story hardens around a particular woman and will not be moved. Black-Eyed Susans is the earlier one, narrated by a survivor whose testimony may have put the wrong man on death row.
