Karen Kincy began writing at thirteen. Her first novel collected about ninety rejections and her second about as many again, and the third, Other, took ninety more before Brian Farrey, an editor at Flux, pulled it out of the slush pile. It appeared in 2010. Its narrator is a seventeen-year-old half pooka hiding what she is while a killer works methodically through the supernatural beings in the woods near her town. Bloodborn and Foxfire completed the trio, and once the rights reverted Kincy reissued all three herself in 2017. Her degrees are in linguistics and literature from Evergreen State and in computational linguistics from Washington, and by her own description she writes books when she is not writing code. Demonic Prince belongs to a later strand of that output, dark fantasy romance, and is followed by Devouring Kiss.
