Karen Witemeyer
Abilene, Texas is where Karen Witemeyer settled and where she took both her psychology degrees at Abilene Christian University, having grown up in California. She writes Christian historical romance, nearly all of it set in small Texas towns in the closing decades of the nineteenth century. At Love's Command (2020) began the Hanger's Horsemen series, in which a former cavalry captain, Matthew Hanger, and the men who ride with him hire out to people the law will not help, and a woman doctor, Josephine Burkett, is the one who takes Hanger's measure. The Heart's Charge (2021) passes the story to two other Horsemen, Mark Wallace and Jonah Brooks, and to Harmony House, a foundling home in Llano County run by Katherine Palmer and Eliza Southerland. At Love's Command was a 2021 finalist for the HOLT Medallion and two other romance prizes, and Family Fiction readers voted Witemeyer their favourite Christian historical author in 2023.
