Kate McLaughlin
Daughter won Kate McLaughlin the 2023 ITW Thriller Award for best young adult novel, handed out at ThrillerFest that June. Wednesday Books published it in March 2022, and it turns on Scarlet, whose dying father, a serial killer she has not seen since she was a baby, will say where his remaining victims lie to nobody but her. McLaughlin is one of six names used by a Canadian-born writer, born in 1971 and settled in Connecticut, whose books carry a Kathryn Smith copyright: the same author writes paranormal historical romance as Kathryn Smith, steampunk for teenagers as Kady Cross, steampunk romance as Kate Cross, urban fantasy as Kate Locke and crime fiction as Kate Kessler. What Unbreakable Looks Like, published in 2020, was the first book she released under the McLaughlin name.
