Dream Fever, published by Avon in 1991, is a historical romance set in nineteenth-century New Zealand, where an Irish woman arrives as a proxy bride for an English sheep farmer living in exile. Publishers Weekly identified the novel's mixture of romance, anguish, and frontier conflict, while later bibliographic records retain the same title and authorship. Sutcliffe has written nineteen novels, earned multiple genre awards, and served as a consultant head writer on the television dramas As the World Turns and Another World. Her fiction often combines emotionally intense relationships with historical or suspense-driven settings.
