Katie Zhao

Zhao writes for children and teenagers and puts Chinese American protagonists into the kinds of story the genre normally hands to somebody else: The Dragon Warrior drops a girl into the Chinese pantheon, Last Gamer Standing is competitive gaming, The Lies We Tell is a campus thriller. She worked in finance and wrote around the job before going full time. She has been direct in public about the pressure on writers of colour to keep producing one particular kind of book.
