LaTanya McQueen

When the Reckoning Comes (Harper Perennial, 2021) began in family research: LaTanya McQueen had been reading about a great-great-grandmother enslaved on a North Carolina plantation, and the novel sends a woman back to her hometown for a wedding at a plantation house that now trades as a resort. It was a Bram Stoker Award finalist and a Goodreads Choice nominee. McQueen took an MFA at Emerson College and then a doctorate at Missouri, held the Robert P. Dana Emerging Writer Fellowship at Cornell College in 2017-18, and holds an associate professorship in English at North Carolina State University, teaching in its MFA programme. Her essay collection And It Begins Like This appeared from Black Lawrence Press in 2017. She has held a creative writing fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and a grant from the Elizabeth George Foundation.
