Lewis Herman

Lewis Herman worked with Marguerite Shalett Herman across acting, directing, teaching, and writing for stage, radio, television, and film. Their shared experience became Foreign Dialects, a practical manual intended for actors, directors, and writers. Routledge describes a second edition covering thirty speech patterns through character studies, pronunciation guidance, and phonetic monologues. Contemporary trade coverage shows that the earlier 1943 version was titled Manual of Foreign Dialects for Radio, Stage and Screen and was already designed for performers, teachers, writers, and students. The later edition therefore represents a revised form of a long-used professional reference.
