Lindsay Currie

The Girl in White is set in a New England town that has monetised its own ghost story, and follows a girl who begins seeing the woman the legend was built on. Currie writes middle-grade horror out of real local folklore, including Chicago's Resurrection Mary in Scritch Scratch, and researches each legend before inventing anything around it. The books are frightening at a level a ten-year-old can actually carry to bed, which is a narrower target than it sounds.
