M. Tara Crowl writes middle-grade fantasy centered on young characters testing rules that their elders regard as fixed. Eden’s Wish opens the Eden of the Lamp sequence with a twelve-year-old genie who has spent her life inside a lamp under the supervision of two guardians. Eden wants ordinary freedom before completing the required 999 wishes, and her escape into California exposes both the attractions of human life and a threat from former genies seeking the lamp. In 2015 Disney-Hyperion introduced Eden's story; Eden’s Escape continued the sequence the next year. Crowl studied cinematic arts at the University of Southern California and later completed graduate work in writing at Macquarie University. That background appears in a story built from quick scene changes, comic adjustments to unfamiliar customs, and a clear visual contrast between the enclosed lamp and the wider world. Eden’s Wish combines adventure with questions about responsibility, belonging, and whether freedom can be separated from obligations to others while Eden makes choices. Comic tension accompanies the consequences of Eden's choices.
