Malcolm Turnbull

Turnbull was Australia's twenty-ninth prime minister, from September 2015 until his own party removed him in August 2018. Before politics he acted for Peter Wright in the Spycatcher case, when the British government tried and failed in the Australian courts to stop a former MI5 officer publishing his memoir. He worked for Kerry Packer, made a fortune from the internet provider OzEmail, and chaired the Australian Republican Movement through the failed referendum of 1999. A Bigger Picture, which came out in 2020, tells that whole story, and it is unusually blunt about colleagues who were still sitting in parliament when the book appeared. Same-sex marriage was legislated during his term and the Snowy Hydro expansion was his.
