Mara Fitzgerald

Mara Fitzgerald balances a career in biology with YA fantasy about difficult protagonists, political ambition, and unfamiliar magical rules. Beyond the Ruby Veil introduces Emanuela Ragno and the enclosed city of Occhia, where a disrupted source of water sends her beyond the veil in search of answers. Into the Midnight Void concludes the duology after Emanuela gains authority but finds her magic becoming unstable, leading her into an uneasy alliance with her rival Verene. The novels appeared from Little, Brown Books for Young Readers in 2020 and 2022. The series pairs a vividly constructed fantasy setting with questions about power, loyalty, and the cost of remaking a flawed society.
