Marjorie Holmes

Marjorie Holmes built a wide readership as an American columnist and novelist writing about faith and family life. Two from Galilee retells the story of Mary and Joseph as historical fiction, imagining their families, courtship, and journey within the social world of first-century Galilee. First published in 1972, it starts a biblical trilogy later continued by Three from Galilee and The Messiah. Holmes approaches familiar scriptural figures through domestic detail and human uncertainty, giving particular attention to the young couple's trust in one another. The novel's enduring readership helped establish the religious historical fiction for which she remains best known.
