Naomi Norsworthy was an American psychologist and educator whose work addressed learning, individual differences, and classroom practice. How to Teach, written with George Drayton Strayer and published by Macmillan in 1917, applies psychological principles to the daily work of teachers. The book considers attention, habit formation, memory, reasoning, play, moral and social conduct, study methods, classroom exercises, and ways to measure achievement. Its preface presents teaching as an art informed by psychology, with success judged through changes in learners rather than the delivery of information alone. Norsworthy's name belongs beside Strayer's because the volume is explicitly coauthored, even when later editions or shortened references foreground only one contributor. The terminology reflects early twentieth-century educational psychology, but the book also shows a sustained effort to connect research with classroom decisions. How to Teach thus represents both Norsworthy's scholarly field and a collaborative attempt to make that field useful to working educators.
