Napier Malcolm was an Anglican clergyman whose work with the Church Missionary Society in Yazd informed Five Years in a Persian Town. E. P. Dutton published the American edition. Malcolm presents a settled resident's account rather than a conventional travel narrative, describing Yazd's desert setting, water systems, houses, trades, schools, and religious communities. Project Gutenberg classifies the work under Iranian social life and customs. Its detailed observations remain useful when read with attention to Malcolm's perspective as a British missionary writing in the early twentieth century.
